Limahuli Gardens - Hanalei, Kauai

Right off the bat I am going to tell you that you probably wont see many pics of me from this trip. It's not that they aren't being taken... it's that this humidity has my hair curly and crazy and I hate the way I look in most of them!

Yesterday was the first day where there was no rain or drizzle so we took a short drive to Limahuli Gardens for a hike. It was a great view of Hanalei and Bali High. The hike was about a mile long and pretty educational. But let me tell you 80 degree overcast weather combined with 76% humidity makes for a hot and moist hike!

I had thought there would be a huge variety of tropical flowers but either it's the wrong season (do they even have seasons in HI?) or it wasn't that type of garden. There were a few flowers and we snapped a few of them. Between the three of us we took over 300 pictures during our hike. Brendan has such a great eye for photography and he is geeting some really good shots. I think we are going to enroll him in a photography course when we get back home.

After the garden we drove through Hanalei which isn't hard since it's pretty much a two lane road and one lane bridges and got a few more good shots and some lunch. We also found a beach we want to try out today or tomorrow. We have a nice private beach at our timeshare but it's in Hanalei Bay so the waves aren't very strong and Brendan wants to boogie board.
We bought some of the best yummy homemade banana bread with chocolate chips and macadamian nuts from a lady at the beach. Here are the boys buying her out basically.
We also explored a dry cave across from the beach. I was trying out my color filters on my camera and this one of the boys ended up being a B&W shot (not bad for my little point and click camera).

After that we were back to the condo which Brendan wasn't psyched about.. note to self: next time I want a calm, peaceful and relaxing vacation leave teenager at home!! I don't blame him for wanting to be on the go, go, go but Kauai isn't Disney Land if ya know what I mean. He went exploring on his own for an hour or so since Charley and I are old and boring. It's the curse of being an only child I guess you are alway stuck with your parents who are boring.

The rest of the day, teenage bitching aside, was pretty mellow and I managed to bake some pork chops, grill some chicken and make a roast so that dinner the rest of the week can be low maintenance and quick. So that's it for yesterday.
